The children are introduced to a balanced program of interaction with friends in both teacher-directed and child-directed experiences. The daily schedule includes free choice of time spent in learning centers, group times for circle time, outdoor play, creative dance and movement, music, storytelling, and dramatization. Holidays, cultural enrichment and celebration, and other themes enable the children to learn while having fun.
The program we pursue is geared toward helping children develop habits of observation, questioning, and listening. It gives each child an awareness of one's own feelings and of one's own right to express those feelings. The children are treasured for their uniqueness and individuality. They are encouraged in self-expression. Such an open-minded program prepares children to utilize their intellectual and creative abilities for future learning tasks.
Our program is child-centered and based upon the belief that play is the best way for children to learn. Each classroom is organized with centers for art, music, literature, science and mathematics, computer, writing, dramatic play, blocks, cooking and small manipulatives. These learning centers encourage reenactment of life's roles. The classroom environment is planned to stimulate imagination and creativity, socialization, and exploration and discovery, while challenging the use of muscles important to developing bodies.
